Sacrament of Marriage

Upon final completion of the St. Mary Chapel in 1886, and at the beginning of the permanent residence of Fr. Augustin Kempnich, S.M., at the St. Mary Rectory, marriages were performed for the next 130+ years. It is assumed that marriages in Union between 1849 and 1887 took place at St. Michael's rather than St. Mary's due to the constant construction phases of St. Mary Chapel throughout the decades. Separate Sacramental Registers, apart from St. Michael the Archangel Church were kept by Fr. Kempnich, S.M., and subsequent priests at the St. Mary Rectory. Over 25+ years of research and dedication by local genealogist, Jay Schexnaydre, have been compiled into a table of marriages. Our goal is to get wedding photos of as many of the couples married at St. Mary's in Union. If a wedding photo does not exist, perhaps a photo of the couples mentioned can be substituted. This list is not 100% complete, but YOU can help by submitting any missing records. Maybe one of your distant ancestors or cousins were unknowingly married here? Take a look to find out. Only marriages 50 years or older have been included. If you would like to list your marriage that took place from 1971 to the present time, please email Jay Schexnaydre at jayschex@gmail.com and we will endeavor to add it to the list.
